Placing Index of your Chapters and list them on side of page in MS Word

I once ran across this person's web book where in the book they had listed the chapters of there book on the side of the front page. I have tried unsuccessfully to locate a version of this book and have contacted Microsoft, only to be rebuffed with a person on the end of the line who never fully grasped at what I was seeking to achieve. I know that I can not be the only one out here that has seen a book listed and written in such a manner.

To gain a better perspective- if one holds a manila envelope in there hands, on the manila envelope is a tab that sticks out in which one can write down what is located inside the manila envelope. I want to list chapters in this way.


Does anyone have a clue?

Is this something preinstalled in MS. Word?
