sending Digital certificates in a client/server network

Hi,,

i'm working on programming a client/server network in C++ Builder, and i was woundering if:
1-the client can send his certificate to the server?, and how can i do it?
2-What is the best certificate format to use (PFX, cer, PEM, DER)?
