The problem is that "attractive" is very subjective: just look at womens fashions. What is praised on the catwalk would get the wearer laughed out of town if it was worn to work.

^] - most of these were written by people who felt that this was really good and would sell the product!
To add to that, without knowing what kind of product you are designing for, there are no guidelines about what works, let alone looks good.
All I can suggest is that you look at products in similar areas, and decide what works, what doesn't, and what could be better. Then sit down and try it in prototype form!
