How a beginner can approach to learn AI

How should I look at AI as an engineering student, Computer science as major. What things I should focus on so that I have a fair chance of switching to an AI job.
How much time it will take to learn things for AI.
What if I do only web development in my graduation years and then later on during the job days focus on AI

What I have tried:

In my freshmen year of college I have explored different domains and decided to focus on DSA and web development as they are the base of anything.Then move to open source contributions.

That depends on so many varialbes, your background and skill set(s), your ability to absorb information, the quality of teaching materials, how much time you spend studying, etc.
