When I try to open notepad using the command prompt, the following line shows up:

'notepad' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.

Please help me resolve it.

What I have tried:

I tried to reset the path for notepad

It just means that your PATH environment variable has been corrupted so it does not point to the system directories. Type "echo %PATH%" at the command prompt to see what is missing.
