Difference between firewall and securitygroup and which is applied first?

Hi,

In AWS Management console, which one is first we need to apply whether Firewall registration is first or Security group is first. What is the difference between them?

How to check Firewall is opened or not for my application?

How to check Security group is created or not for my application?

What I have tried:

I tried to understand the difference between them but cant clearly understand. Please anyone help.
