I found this article:
Parsing XBRL with Python[
^]
And am hoping to find some help.
I am trying to identify and extract specific data from SEC Filings on a routine basis; however, I want to automate this process instead of having to manually go search a long list of S-1's.
I have no idea how to even do such a thing, but an internet search resulted in finding the above article, which indicated to me that what I want to do is possible. However, I don't understand anything that is being said on this site as to how to do it.
I need to be able to search the Edgar SEC site for search criteria:
1. I need to be able to search Form S-1 for the year 2020; and
2. extract "shareholders' equity" and the dollar figure associated with it.
3. I need it put in a spreadsheet so I can sort it from the largest to the smallest number
4. And then my boss will be happy with me.
Please help!?!?!?!?
"shareholders' equity"
What I have tried:
I haven't tried anything yet because I don't know how to do it.
