Installing libraries with mingw for C

As a beginner I want to install the GMP library and stumbled upon this guide:
Install GMP[^]

What I have tried:

It tells me to install the gmp library, mingw and msys separately, however I had mingw already installed beforehand and when I opened the mingw installation manager I saw that there are packages available for msys and the gmp library.

Why is the guide telling me to install everything separately if there are already packages available in the mingw installation manager?
Is it possible to skip the usual steps by simply selecting specific packages for installation or is it there for a different purpose?
