There are quite a few applications out there, so generally it has been done and it should not be such a big deal since quite a few of these applications repeat the same features/solutions like ewa english app uses a similar suggest a translation system.

I would like to have a stab at building something similar to netflix/youtube subtitles translator that would store chosen vocab from those subtitles.

I believe it comes down to using 3rd party services, like for hinting word translations. Yet i am not sure which of them i should use specifically. Would all of these applications make use of google translator, would they rely on google that much? I think they make use of various APIs in general. It would be awesome to have a list of APIs to make use of.

I am looking for opinions, resources, feedback, guidance in general. Please share or tell me where to look.

What I have tried:

I have been looking for technical books, courses, resources regarding building language learning software, and could not find any.

Oscova is a framework with support for Natural Language Processing: best-c-workflow-engines~oscova[^]

And maybe you can find something here: https://www.slant.co/tags/translation[^]
