How to create background android service which runs automatically after certain time interval.

Hi I want to create a android service on mobile app which task is to get the sms data from online server through api and save to mobile db and send the sms through mobile.
and again after certain interval same process will occur.

The saved data will be displayed and processed for reporting purpose and other.

What I have tried:

I dont have any idea to create such service which runs on background on every certain interval which get the sms data from online and send the sms through mobile.
