This is the given prompt: Write a loop to see if a has any letter that comes before b in the alphabet. (assume all letters are lowercase)
(Line of code)

a = input("type a word: ")
b = input("type a letter: ")

( also how would you solve this with a while loop and for-range?)

I'm new here pls dont be too harsh :)

What I have tried:

This is what I have so far:

contains = False
for char in s:

Best is to search for some python tutorials and learn a bit about the language. ;-)

thanks I actually figured it out :')

Think about the question and what you need to do:
1. Get the word in a, and the key letter in b
2. Set the flag to false
3. Create a loop that will iterate through all the letters of a
3.1. For each letter, compare it to b, and if it is lower, set the flag to true.
3.2. If the flag is now true, there is no need to check other letters so you can break out of the loop
4. Print a message that includes the status of the flag

You show no attempt to solve the problem yourself, you have no question, your main effort is pasting the requirement, you just want us to do your HomeWork.
HomeWork problems are simplified versions of the kind of problems you will have to solve in real life, their purpose is learning and practicing.

We do not do your HomeWork.
HomeWork is not set to test your skills at begging other people to do your work, it is set to make you think and to help your teacher to check your understanding of the courses you have taken and also the problems you have at applying them.
Any failure of you will help your teacher spot your weaknesses and set remedial actions.
Any failure of you will help you to learn what works and what don't, it is called 'trial and error' learning.
So, give it a try, reread your lessons and start working. If you are stuck on a specific problem, show your code and explain this exact problem, we might help.

As programmer, your job is to create algorithms that solve specific problems and you can't rely on someone else to eternally do it for you, so there is a time where you will have to learn how to. And the sooner, the better.
When you just ask for the solution, it is like trying to learn to drive a car by having someone else training.
Creating an algorithm is basically finding the maths and make necessary adaptation to fit your actual problem.

You, being a beginner is not a reason for us to do your HomeWork.
We will help you to fix a problem, but you need to describe your exact problem, where you are stuck.
If your problem is the whole exercise, you need to talk with your teacher.
