How can I read out of a mysql table

I have the following problem:
In my mysql table are much entrys having the same value.
I want now to read out this value but I only want to show him once. If there are other values they all should be shown.
I don´t have any idea how to realise that.

Select distinct col1 from table1

the above query will show only distinct records
