I am trying to reinstall Microsoft Visual Studio 6.0 Professional on Windows 7 Pro on my 32-bit HP Pavilion 515n HDD before the mandatory update to Windows 10 soon.
I still use it once per month to backup my Palm Pilot, then do a free space drive wipe.
I want to get back to programming on that computer, and keep it off my HP ENVY 700-210xt 64-bit SSD. I plan to install a 500 GB HDD in it soon, and probably a VM for the programming, but I want to get this done before that.
I can get all the way through CD 1 using Run As Administrator, but at the very end it will not succeed because it cannot delete Windows\vssetup.ttf!
This seems to be because the Font folder will not allow the closure since it is still active.
I have tried to establish a 0 byte case for it, but that will not even allow the reinstall to get started.
I cannot figure out a way to have Windows\vssetup.ttf exist at the beginning and close at the end! This may be related to updates, because I had it installed when I changed from XP SP3 to 7 Pro SP1, although I could not run the Debug, or Compile, on a program I wrote long ago (has release version that brings what it needs with it).

What I have tried:

What I have tried is covered above. I had massive Google search on this also.

My best advice for you is to skip VS6 and go to VS17 or VS19. Both are free for personal use and work well in W7 and W10. VS6 is more than twenty years old now so I would be surprised if it could install itself correctly. I had problems installing VS03 and VS08 on W7. Thankfully, I don't have to use those any more.
