catching event in outlook calendar

Hi newb here

Im trying to do a outlook 2010 addin that can be used to schedule appointments in shared calendars in outlook and pass some parameters like start/end date, shared calendar account name, and subject to a database.

My problem is distinguishing the new event from a changed event so I can update instead of insert in the database.

Can I get the event of the default appointment button?

Is it possible to get the new appointment button event?
