I need to load a xml file through a href list

Here is my issue. I created a list of recipes. I want the user to be able to click on one of the recipes and that recipe load into the div element I have assigned to recipe. The recipe will be loaded from a XML file. So basically when the user clicks on coleslaw it will load the whole coleslaw section from the xml file and so on. I've googled this and could not find a clear answer. Either using php or Javascript is fine with me as long as it works. This is a class project I'm working on, any leads would be helpful. Here is a link to the project to get an idea whats going on. The white space to the left of the list of recipes is where I want them to load.
