Hi,

We have a our own cloud which we've built and host in the UK.

Currently all of our clients are based in the UK but we have opportunities to provide services to Qatar.

Would it be advisable to construct a new cloud in the region of should the UK based cloud be able to adequately provide services to the middle east? If we host it in the UK should I be concerned about quality of service issues?

What are other experiences of providing global services? Have they distributed their data centers around the world? Or are they providing the services from a single location?

Our cloud has redundancy at all levels, so it's split across two data centers, we have diverse routing on the internet connections, NLB for the public facing servers, active passive clustering for the internal servers.

Are there general rules you should follow in terms of how far, geographically, you should be prepared to serve clients from a data center?

Any and all thoughts on the subject are welcome!

Kind regards,

Steve
