update ,delete,insert from datagrid using coonected architecture

Hi all,
Can we update, delete, insert from DataGrid using connected architecture, like only using Cmd.Excecute non query methods,not using sql dataadapter
also do datasets exist only in disconnected architecture.
plz please clarify me on this.
