text box size difference when pointing to sql server 2000 and sql server 2008

Hi, i m facing problem with textbox width issue when i point to the sql server 2000 and 2008. when i point my application to sql server 2000 database, textbox width is coming large, data is char datatype and having length is 10. When i point my application to sql server 2008, the textbox width is coming small and its width equal to column length(10), data is char datatype and length is 10. can anybody tell why is it coming different width? database and schema is same for both the server. plz help..
