need a code to archive data

I need to develop the code .
The objective is to archive data in custom table and how we can retrieve it back from the archive.

I need a logic to write the code in such a way so that on selection screen if i give/select any table with particular date e.g. if i select any table like Zhistory and date 21/10/2011 to 25/12/2011 then the data should archive and display on screen.
