Does anybody have source code for implementing AutoPlay in Windows, i.e. what Tim Almdal is doing in this article[^], but without the hassle of using pipes?

Whatz the challenge on using this CodeProject solution?

The code is not very well organized. It declares registry keys/values unique for the demo application, i.e. not used to demonstrate how AutoPlay works. If I were to write an article on AutoPlay, I would organize the code in a way it would be reusable for other developers, emphasizing the settings needed for them to change in order to get it working in their own environment.

Hi Disore!

Happy New Year!

I personally think Autoplay is a bad thing. Any specific purpose?

Hi!

Happy new year to you as well.

I am developing an application for my mother, who is an complete newbe when it comes to computers. I want that my "extremely easy to use" application should start when she connects her camera, and thought autostart would be the easiest way.

Do you have any other suggestions?

Wouldn't it be easier to let Windows handle this?
I don't know about your Windows installation, but mine is asking me what I'd like to do, when, e.g., I plug in a camera, DVD, whatever.

Yea, but this is what I am attempting to solve. It is called autoplay (http://msdn.microsoft.com/sv-se/magazine/cc301341(en-us).aspx).

Sorry, I called it autostart in my previous post, which I also posted as a solution, doh!

OK. Just another question, I'm not completely sure if I got you correctly.
Do you want to auto-start your application or shall it be displayed in the autoplay dialog (like shown in the screenshot of that article in your question)?

I guess it doesn't matter as long as the user has the option to launch the application when a camera is connected. I though of using autoplay since that feature is a part of Windows, but if it is easy to autostart instead I am open for suggestions.
