Hi!

I am in the process of creating cross-platform POS and storage project(Windows and Linux) with emphasis on Linux.
I must pick a suitable RDBMS and as SQL Server kind of guy I'm having hard time to make a proper decision.
My experience with MySQL is entirely based on web projects and my experience with PostgreSQL is even scarcer.
Is there something better?

Any advice is helpful.

Both of MySQL and PostgreSQL are well known and have good reputation. You can choose either of them.

Other than MS SQL Server you can pick any RDBM as they all support both Windows and Linux environments (you can even get connectors for most programming platforms too [.net, java, ruby etc.]).

The real question is which database engine you are more comfortable with and you can support easily and cheaply.
