What are the checklist for creating msi installer

I am currently upgrading an installer - need to have facility to detect old versions and prompt user and also need to cancel upgrade on user choice. There will be a option 'just me' and 'all user' for giving user installtion options. The question is how to manage such kind of versioning and registry checking (also i have to add few values in registry) during project development (as frequent changes applied daily. Is there any list of such tasks from where i can have better understanding of it?

Solution 1

while creating and installer of same project the version of your application automatically detected by installer and installer itself check for older version.
