displaying a work panel

i'm having list of items in a tree view, i want to display the work panel of the items in the same window, to the side of my items tree view structure. so that if i click my item the corresponding panel should display in the side of same window and there is three buttons to display their corresponding functions inside the panel.but without using AJAX, how can i make it?
