install php-5.3.8 in ubuntu11.10

when I installed php-5.3.8 in unbuntu11.10, I encountered the following problems.
I input the command "./configure --prefix=/usr/local/php",It happend that it did not work!The error messages in the terminal said"it can not find xml2-config file in my computer".I know where the problem is.It is that the libxml2 intalled in my computer is version 2.7.8,but if I install php-5.3.8,it requests version 2.7.6.How can I solve the problem .Thank you very much!

I know I can install LAMPP,but I want to try to install with source code myself.This can improve myself.So I want to know how to solved the problem instead of avoiding it.Thank you!
