Home appliances control using pc

Hi all, i need to control home appliances through internet. I mean by sitting some were in the internet i want to ON and OFF my home appliances by accesing one website or IP address. Sugest me how to do it and how to connecting my appliances at home PC through USB port ,or, serial port ,or, parallel port of Pc. I require to control nearly 15 types of appliances.
