This is embarrassing for me, but I have no idea what to do.
I want to connect to SQL server from my home and field office; what else should I tweak?
I could use VPN (it works), but I prefer to connect directly.

My admin is on vacation and I'm starting to appreciate his work even more.

Facts:
SQL Server 2008 R2:
All services are running
Mixed authentication is enabled
TCP/IP protocol is enabled

OS:
Windows Server 2003 SP2

Please help.

P.S. I've restarted my machine after applying changes.

Edit: sysadmin returned and it looks like we are having major problem concerning our network.

And important note for those who aren't aware of risks of exposing sql server to the web:
This is generally very bad idea!
Use VPN if possible or web services for specific tasks or DirectAccess.

Are you getting any error while trying to connect?

Yes, but at the moment I cannot reproduce it nor copy it =/ (I'm away from my "remote" machines).
As I recall, Server cannot be found.
IP is static, and I can connect with same connection string within any computer within domain.

I receive following link in my error message:
http://www.microsoft.com/products/ee/transform.aspx?ProdName=Microsoft+SQL+Server&EvtSrc=MSSQLServer&EvtID=-1

I've done all that is mentioned on support site; all beside firewall expection for sqlBrowser. I'll will try to connect later (remote machines are down).

It looks like I always ask wrong questions in search machines... I should have found link you have provided by myself.

I still cannot connect. This is the link I get with error message:
http://www.microsoft.com/products/ee/transform.aspx?ProdName=Microsoft+SQL+Server&EvtSrc=MSSQLServer&EvtID=-1

I believe I've done everything from support page and everything mentioned from in help page.
Do you have any ideas?
