creating a database connection to a remote SQL Server database with android application

Hello Sir,

We have executed google calendar application with SQLITE database in android and it was sucessful. We have to connect this calendar application to remote MSSQL Server. How to proceed for this in android? Do we need to write webservices? Can anybody suggest us solution for this?
