splitpath alternative needed -- one which can handle long filenames (very long)

splitpath freaks out when the path (or any portion of the path) is longer than 260 characters...

was wondering if there was a great alternative (proven) piece of code out there that works just like splitpath... on drive-letter paths as well as UNC...
