Hi All,
I have 9+ exp in Microsoft .Net as senior developer level, going forward I want groom myself as S/W application architect. Now I can handle/develop a module or small tool my own. In order to handle big projects and its design, I need to prepare myself and become an archiect. Please help me with your tips and ideas to my achieve my dream goal.

Thanks.

You have a lot of experience to back your ambition which is good.

The following questions come into mind:

1. Are you able to understand client/customer requirements properly and formulate them into a requirements document?

2. Given the above, how capable are you in designing a suitable process for the project and a logical plan?

3. How good is your estimation? Let's assume that a client asks for a huge project which may take months to complete. Are you able to narrow down on the resources needed and the exact timespan give or take a month or two?

The above questions is all that I can think as of now. One more thing is that the word Architect itself should give you a comprehensive idea on what you will be asked to do. You will be building the basic foundation of a project which is very critical throughout the software development lifecycle.

Hope this helped. :)

Thanks Nithin for your valuable points
You must be joking!
9+ experience in development and you are here asking for a help/tips.

Whatever you have learned in your 9+ years are must more important and significant than any tip that one can give which too would not fit in every situation. You have to use your knowledge and intelligent calls while designing projects.

Just keep all those stuff those you have taken care of while development(like usability, performance, data, extensability, etc) in mind while desigining. That should do.

Comment from OP:
Thanks Sandeep,
The last paragrapgh makes sense for me. Even through I had experience and knowledge on architecture, I haven't handled big projects my own. I will keep in mind about your point and work for the future
We're not paid to be teachers. Take a class. Duh...
