You mean whether or not it's IDE or SATA?

You need to use WMI to find the controller it's attached to, and then to find out what kind of controller it is. Google is your friend.

You 1-voted the only answer you got? WMI most certainly IS the only reliable way to obtain the info you're afte. I don't do C++ anymore, but finding out how to access WMI (regardless of the language you use) is very easily findable on google.
