Elaborate what you mean by 'readonly partition'?

Hi Sandeep,
Thanks for your reply. I'm doing a project with pen drive. In pen drive i need to store some confidential data, so I need to creat a partition which is read only. In that partition only user can read the data and can't write on it. It is better if i make the entire pen drive memory as read only without creating partition.

Thanks in Advance.

Mohan

You can use gparted on a linux distro disc to create a partition of type ext3/read

Good idea, my 5.
As far as I remember, is can also be done to any other partition, not just ext3, I am right?
There are also some Windows partition editors to do that.

Okay if you need to distribute data for read-purposes, then why not just burn and distribute it on a CD or a DVD?

If you really want to distribute them on pen drives, then just make sure your data is in some kind of read-only format (perhaps in secure pdf form). That way they cannot change your data, although they can format and reuse the pen drive for their purposes (but that won't affect your data integrity).

Makes sense as an advice (5), however read-only partition is quite possible and more powerful.
