Solution 1

I wouldn't do it if I were you.

The problem is that it won't work in all Windows versions: access to the IE status bar is denied in Vista and higher for security reasons.

There is an article here: Adding a Status Bar Pane to an Internet Explorer Window and Unmasking the Web Page Passwords in Place[^] but be aware it will probably fail and cause you more grief than you really need!
