Finding one variety that can't be cracked will be a daunting task though; don’t know if anybody has quite managed that one ...

I don't know for sure. I would say it's not a matter of finding but logically and very strictly verifying.
However, did you know, for example, that the fact that RSA does not have a backdoor is not mathematically proven (as far as I know) but merely believed by majority of mathematicians working at those problems?
