Volume control on windows vista or 7

I have been using Winmm.lib library under XP for years with great success.I have recently become aware that the volume control doesn't set the volume when running under Window Vista. I had used mixerSetControlDetails().
Anyhow, has anyone been able to get this to go under Vista?
