How to save GTK app preferences?

Hello,

I'm new to C and GTK, so please be patient :) My problem is, that I want to add some functionality to UCT IMS Client. I want to add Save/Load Configuration button. Buttons are added to Glade and programmed in C. The problem is that I don't know how to save state of all objects (textboxes,checkboxes ...) Best will be saveing to an xml but anything for start will be great (at least how to get state of all objects).
