This may be a silly question, but I have been unable to find how to edit another member's question.

The grammar, spelling, and misuse of the English language of some posts is starting to get to me. Do I need a certain level of editor points first? If so, is the only way to get editor points until I "level up" to edit my own posts?

Questions are only silly if they are incoherent or full of text speak... :) Cheers.

Thanks pogo.

You don'tt have enough reputation points to edit. From the Q/A FAQ:

How does editing content work?

The ability to edit posts is dependent on your levels for specific reputation types. The following describes one or more levels and a set of associated reputation types. You have edit permission if you are the author or if you match all the levels with any one of the associated reputation types. We're still fine-tuning these rules so they may be tweaked.

silver Author
silver Authority
silver Editor
silver Organiser

The "silver" relates to how many points are requiresd to achieve thae necessary level, and the categories require different amounts of points for each "color" level. These points levels can be found in the Reputation Points FAQ[^]

Thanks John, so for now I can only gain Editor points by editing my own posts?

I think so, but you can only gain so many points per day, and the changes have to result in a significant difference in text. You have to be at least silver in ALL of the categories listed above. That's going to take a lot more than just editing your own posts.

Start by editing your own points, but also as you gain points in other areas these will be added in total to your rep score, and once certain criteria are met, you will be allowed various priveledges.
If there is a green colored "Improve Question" link just below the right side of the question, then you can edit the question. If not, you don't have enough reputation points.

Thank you Dave.
Editor and organizer poinst are the hardest to accumulate, because you can only get 1 or two at a time, and only so many per day. Consider that you need at least 1000 points in those two categories, and you can probably see that it's going to be a while before you can edit other people's messages.

It is definitely going to be a long road. I'll do my best to keep my sanity in the mean time.
