How do I change WM_APPCOMMAND

Hello I purchased a remote to use with my HTPC now with Kodi. We have to use Chrome or Netflix now and again so have to close it which is fine but have to manually click into kodi and would love to assign the remotes home button to open Kodi. At present it only opens the default browser. Doing key checks it says it is seen as

Passmark Keyboard test Lang code 00000409, Windows Key Code 172 (0xac) BIOS key code 0 (0x0)
Key Tweak Scan code is 57344
Show Key is <browser_home>Notification(Key, browser_home, 3) or under it it sas AppCMD WM_APPCOMMAND: 7:Navigate home

Anyways to change or remap this key would be great, seen a couple of sites but they make literally no sense to me a few step by steps would be amazing.

What I have tried:

Reading forums. Changing the default browser to Kodi but only can use browser apps. Tried renaming Kodi to the browser and placing it in the folder and removing the browser
