Single login for ASP.NET and joomla CMS

I have two different application, ASP. net application and Joomla CMS application,

I need single login in asp.net application when the user logged in asp.net application, it should automatically login to Joomla as well. how can do this?

What I have tried:

currently, when the user gets logged in asp .net application next step I will be passing the username in URL to Joomla application to validate the users. I wanted to avoid this
