Webservice error - 01 invalid user credentials

I get error "01 Invalid User credentials " when I try to run a webservice in internet Explorer,though I have given the correct user credentials in the webservice link .

I have tried running the webservice using http://Webservicepath/State?Appln_Id={User ID}&Password={Password}.

I am new to webservices. I hope thats is the correct way to run a webservice in internet Explorer.

Anybody knows a solution/workaround . Please help.

It depends on the web service. Sometimes the username and password need to be in the header. You'll have to ask whoever built it.
