How to darken the entire page except the specific elements

hi guys

Do you know how it looks like a page, when the SearchTextBox.focus() darkens the rest of the page?

What I have tried:

I tried to get the result. But it was not a good thing
I want to know if there is a standard solution for this design?

Solution 1

You put a semi transparent div over the whole page, and then you put your controls on top of that. It's called a wash.
