Can you print out an error report from an XSLT transformation?

I am calling an xslt.Transform from C# to convert an XML file from an old format to a newer format. Is there any way to report on fields that are not in the new format that were in the old? I was hoping to create an error report to alert the user on fields that they would need to manually change?

What I have tried:

Solutions I have googled, I do not believe will do what I desire?
