I have created an icon 48x48 with 16 colors in vc++ 6.0 mfc dialog application. I got the icon in the executable file,
but I'm unable to show this icon shortcut on the Windows XP desktop.

The size of icons shown on the desktop is a setting of the desktop, then you cannot have your application icon to be shown as 48x48. What you can do is to change the desktop settings, but doing this all the icons on the desktop will be 48x48

how can i create custom icon 32x32 pixels with more clarity

1 solution

Your icon file "res\icon.ico" should have the standard resolutions (16x16, 32x32) that may be needed for the Windows desktop. You can add them to your icon file by using one of the free icon editors from the internet.

You cannot do this. Your icon should provide all the required resolutions. This has no effect on your application, it is just necessary so that windows can display your icon on the desktop
