I'm interested in writing something but I don't know what the proper name of it is so that I can search for documentation of it.

I have a file which contains other files, similar in concept to a zip file. I want to be able to have Windows Explorer or any other program that works with files to see this container file as just another folder.

This type of file has a binary format but the contents are mostly text files. I want to be able to use a source control system against the individual contained files without me having to manually export them first.

If you are wondering, this is PowerBuilder code. The various text based code objects are stored in a binary file with extension pbl along with the binary compiled code.

What I have tried:

Searched for several things I thought it would be.

What you're talking about is a "Shell Namespace Extension[^]".
