Currently We are working on a .NET 3.5 web application, and all development activities are carried out using Visual studio 2010.
Why we want to migrate?
Reduce server cost and to work on latest technology
The web application and SQL database is hosted on single server. Plan is to have more than one server. So we want to take the open source option provided by .NET Core and host our application on Linux servers. Assuming the overall cost to client will come down.
Queries?
1.Will it be total code rework?
2.Does Hosting application on Linux servers will reduce the overall cost?
3.How can I proceed if above is possible?

Note: I have 2 years of experience :)

What I have tried:

I have searched blogs and discussed with tech archs. Not of much help.

Hmm... It will better to use windows hosting environment to host .net site. if you are using SQL server database, then windows hosting should be the best choice for you. .NET 3.5 and .NET Core are not the same, you might need to rebuild your code

The general answer is it depends on how your application is written and what it uses.

The only one who can answer is you, so try and see.
