I've been asked if I can write an application for which two of its system requirements are:
1) The application must integrate with the Microsoft (MS) LAN operating system and its security.
2) The application must run on Windows Server 2012R2 and SQL 2014 SP2.

What I have tried:

I've tried to research the LAN OS, it seems very difficult to find information on. Anything I find implies it is very old / obsolete. This was backed up by a few network guys I asked. So really I'm just asking if anyone can confirm this or knows otherwise, and if there are likely to be any compatibility issues, if that is what the user really wants. (Although i think they probably don't know what they are asking!)

Many thanks :)

1- Makes no sense, there is no MS LAN OS.
2- You can't run *on* SQL 2014, you can work *with* SQL 2015

You go back to whomever told you about this mystery OS and ask them to provide you with the information about it. Off topic for this forum.

I think they mean MS LAN Manager then, as that was all I could find any reference to online, and your comment pretty much confirms that. And yes I understand what you mean about the SQL statement. Is there anywhere else you can recommend going for information about compatibility with LAN Manager? Thank you for your comments so far. BTW the reqs were written by non-SW engineers, so this isn't the only issue I ham having by any means!

Well as you have discovered, neither of the requirements actually mean much, if anything. You would be better off getting a proper set of requirements from whoever is driving this, and turning it into a technical specification yourself.
