I have a windows application that needs to be run on system start up. I have seen the approach of adding in registry key. But the problem is it works only for windows. Is there any generic way to make the application run on both windows and mac OS.

What I have tried:

You want a windows application starting on MacOS?

yes as well as windows

No, there isn't, for two reasons:

1) They are different - indeed, competing - operating systems, and they don't do anything in a "generic" way, particularly when it comes to booting up.
2) Running a Windows app on MAC OS doesn't work directly: it's possible, but you need to use a VM, or Wine, or similar: 5 Ways to Run Windows Software on a Mac[^]

but here the scenario is to have it on user machines as it is a end user application
