Measures of software quality assurance

Hi everyone,

I have a problem and i hope someone can help with it,
i am an intermediate embedded software developer, currently working on a project related to home appliances, but i am not aware of some concepts and methods, that you may help with;
- how is software quality assurance is implemented in embedded system development?
- what is the best cycle for embedded system development as milestones?

That question is far too broad for a Quick Answers forum. There are books written on these subjects, and the processes are just the same whether it is embedded software, desktop or web.
