What tools do I need for starting a simple online multiplayer game ?

I want to start a website for a really simple multiplayer game , where people make accounts get achievements and attack each other . but I'm a beginner at web developing , so can someone please explain to me what do I need to start it and if there are any tools for a beginner like me ?

or if I need a web developer what should I tell them and what qualities I should make sure they have ?

is it do able with WordPress ?

What I have tried:

I know how to work with WordPress but from what I have noticed it is only good for blogs and nothing more , for example I don't think it allows the user to make an account on the website ?!
