Modem connection problem

I have connected one Serial Port Modem (P0003U Edge Modem) to PC. When I try to access the Modem through Hyper-Terminal; I received the following Error:
"Unable to Open Com1. Please check your Port settings."

What may be the problem?
Please help me friends.
