Update a data column from within a model after performing calculations

I have a model with a method

class Post < ActiveRecord::Base
def setscore
score = 0
do something here
score #return the score
end
end

how could i store the returned score to a table column within the post model

iv tried something like

self.score = score within the method at the end
(score is also the column name in the post table)
